Do you have to have a phoneline to get broadband or can you get it through cable tv or some other way? How much is phoneline rental in Germany? How much is the cheapest cable tv package in Germany? Just asking because we’re thinking of maybe buying a small apartment near Leipzig and we’re on a budget so every € we save helps! Thanks.

The best offer if you consider price and service is T online
That counts if you need unlimited internet data and the DSL high speed
There are however a few others cheaper than T online but they either limit online time data or speed of DSL.
I find that Deutsche Telekom (T-Online, T-Home, etc.) has the best rates. I have VDSL 16000 with internet flat rate, phone flat rate and north american flat rate, plus TV (don’t need cable TV anymore) and I pay just under 49 Euro per month. The package comes with a WLAN router, Media Receiver and WLAN transmitter for the receiver. By far the best deal in Germany. The nice thing is, everytime there’s an update for the hardware it is free and if the hardware is out dated, Telekom supplies the new hardware. You can save money on your phone bill by buying the hardware directly from Telekom. Although the initial cost is (about) 300 Euro for the media receiver, 200 Euro for the WLAN transmitter and 200 Euro for the WLAN router. I find it better to just rent the hardware right from Telekom (which is included in the 49 Euro per month). Hope this helps.
