COMODO is the best free protection; it is vast. McAfee probably offers one of the best all-round services, but it can slow your computer down considerably, the more Internet-based security services can probably be the most effective, google some reviews on the “best security programs”.

There are many free anti-virus tools out there. You don’t really have to pay anything to keep your PC secure. The three best free anti-virus programs are listed below. I would go for AVG or Avast.
    AVG Free: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-F…
    Avast: http://www.download.com/avast-Home-Editi…
    Avira: http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe…
However, you should also have some description of spyware protection, such as Spybot S&D, which is also free.http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot…
And you should also have a good firewall. The one built into Windows is not really powerful enough. I recommend Comodo firewall (also free).http://www.filehippo.com/download_comodo…

well..i would s aay yourself….if like me you try everything..then it mucks up ,you reformat…then you get tired of reformatting, so you dont go on sites you know are bad, and you dont install programs suggested, you instal all basics and leave well alone, sorry for being blunt, but i learned that way and i have had no probs for 2 years, so remember keep off, dont touch, and keep it basic…hope this helps
