I have several friends who have purchased diamonds online (from Adiamor, Abazias, James Allen, and Amazon.com) who said everything went well for them. I saw the package for the Amazon.com one, and I was impressed–not your typical Amazon.com book packaging; it included a handout on cleaning jewelry, a nice enough ring box, etc.
As for finding the best prices, I recommend using a diamond search engine. Two I’ve used are Diamond Price Guru and Pricescope (links below). They both pull the inventory information from many online retailers, over a dozen between them, probably closer to 20 retailers. In some cases, you’ll even see the exact same diamond (each stat matches perfectly) listed by more than one retailer, and you can easily see which retailer gives you the best price. If other people suggest retailers outside the ones listed on these search engines, certainly try them, too, but by all means use the diamond search engines. The whole reason they were created was to help buyers compare diamonds side-by-side.
As for “cheapest certified diamond online,” I just checked the Diamond Price Guru site and saw one for $125.

I agree, blue nile is the most well known and largest online retailer for loose diamonds on the net. You can trust their quality and reliability. With that being said, they also only carry GIA and AGS certificates and for the most part only carry SI1 quality stones or better. Although these certs are the most reliable, they also are the most expensive (and the cost is passed onto the customer). Also, there are plenty of diamonds that fall below blue nile’s standards that are great bargins and beautiful stones.
I have purchased much of my diamond jewelry at diamond-jewelry-masters.com and I have been very happy with their quality, price and delivery. They recently added a bridal ring builder which gives you many choices to find the perfect style, quality and price to fit your needs. Sometimes the best deals are found with the smaller more personal retailers such as these. I do think that they sell loose too. I will check….
