Prison or jail? If you think someone is in the county lock-up, you will have to call that county’s jail and ask. There is no county website that is going to have the info. People come and go too fast for them to update it.
If it’s prison, then you go to the state’s department of corrections website and click on “inmate locator.”

There are indeed county websites that update their inmate population nightly/daily, along with mugshots. It all depends on what state you need it for as the technology of each county varies greatly.
I know for a fact that Polk County, IA has this kind of website. I would Google your county jail and see it pops up.
