Best Free Internet Security?

I’ll be getting a laptop soon (Windows Vista) and was wondering about the best free internet security. At the moment, there’s still some subscription left from my Norton, so I’ll be using that until it expires but I’ve found it slows my PC down a lot. For our broadband we’re with Virgin Media, who offer a free internet security programme, but they’ve said it’s not compatible with Firefox, which is what I want to use.
So do you have any idea of free internet security compatable with the stuff I’ve mentioned? Thanks :D

If your getting a laptop with Vista how to you know Norton is slowing it down. If your current computer is using Norton and it is running slow you may not be using the newest version of Norton. Norton 2009 is very light, in fact nothing on the market today runs lighter. But some times there are coflicts and you could have slow downs with a certain anti-virus program. So it’s easier to find one that runs smooth on your computer.
All that being said if you want free protection the Avast is good. Avira is also good but does not have anti-spyware protection. I would stay away from AVG because the free version does not have anti-rootkit protection. In todays malware world anti-rootkit protection is a must. They are very hard to remove if infected with one.
I’m changing this. I just found out that Avira has added anti-spyware protection. That puts in at the top. The new version released March 17 can be downloaded from http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-P…

Avast is supposed to be quite a good free antivirus program ( a lot better than AVG) ! a lot better i wouldn’t recommend AVG i have had many friends that have had this and have had many problems + a lot of viruses ( i wouldn’t say this if it wasn’t true) lol
the links below are where to download AVAST from and how to use it :)
